Instagrammer in Residence - Barbican Centre

The Barbican Centre was one of the first places I visited when I moved to London from Buenos Aires. A pair of good friends who fell in love with its aesthetic, cultural heritage and standing in the arts community knew I would love it as much as they did and, being my very first time in the United Kingdom, I knew it would be something special. I fell in love with the Barbican Centre and spent many weekends roaming its brutalist walls, passageways and surprisingly green insides.
A competition appeared as the Barbican continued to push the boundaries of its art programme in the form of an Instagrammer Residency, an unpaid opportunity to document the Barbican Centre through a personal lens with access to backstage theatre rehearsals, private architecture tours and a first look at some of their upcoming exhibitions. Best of all, photos taken throughout the month-long stint would wind up being projected on a big, brutalist wall in the main entrance hall.
I was fortunate enough to be chosen to be the resident for the month of April, with access to the incredible Polish animation film festival, conservatory tours and Sound Unbound 2019, a classical weekender jack-packed with events, interesting people and amazing storytelling.
Below are some of the captures from that month, as well as some of my favourite photographs of the Barbican. This kicked off a longer-term friendship with the brilliant minds at the centre that has kindly invited me to continue sharing my photographs with them and has been featured across a few of their monthly programme guides throughout the years.
