The Thing That Gets You To The Thing

Scroll

After megabytes of texting, hours on the phone, and countless pizza dinners gushing over all aspects of the show, we decided to jump into the fray and launch The Thing That Gets You To The Thing (TTTGYTTT), a fan podcast dedicated to one of the most underrated shows on television: AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire. The project began life like many others during the pandemic, with remote brainstorm sessions and recording. The podcast allowed my co-host (Alexandra Goldstein) and I to dive deep into the narrative structure, production values, and cinematography of the show whilst opening up a direct dialog with fans. We made it our mission to use the podcast as a way to increase the visibility of the show and engage with new people.

I produce, co-host, and fully edit each and every episode, as well as look after the design assets and social toolkit (see below) and publishing of each episode. You’ll also find me tangled deep into Reddit and Youtube comments, as well as engaging with fans on Facebook Groups to get the word out, which has resulted in over 3,000 organic listens.

With one full 11-episode season released, we’ve seen initial success in the perception of the podcast, becoming the defacto show podcast amongst the community (and even to the show’s creators!). The podcast has been in the top 10 charts under TV Shows: Aftershows in markets such as Argentina (#7), Sweden, and Spain.

Season 2 is now in production and all existing episodes can be found on major podcast platforms such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Pocketcasts, Anchor, and more.
